Mendon May Day— 1949Mendon May Queen Enid Bord and Her Royal Court in 1949.

Mendon May Day Celebration Set— Under direction of the Sunday school with the superintendency, Earl Buist, Rulen Ladle and William Longstroth, Jr. in charge, the annual Mendon May Day celebration will be held Saturday, May 7th. At 10:00 a.m. there will be a maypole dance by twenty little girls under direction of Mozelle Sorensen and Clara Leishman followed by the crowning of Queen Enid Bird, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orval G. Bird by consort Reed Willie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Willie. These activities will take place on the chapel lawn, weather permitting. At 2:00 p.m. there will be dancing for children followed by various sports, races and a ball game. Climax of the day’s activities will be a dance in the evening, the public is invited.1949's Mendon May Day Dancers.

May Day Festival At Mendon Saturday— Annual Mendon May Day celebration will be held Saturday, commencing at 10:00 a.m. with the crowning of the May Queen, Enid Bird, by Reed Willie her Consort. Sponsoring the celebration is the Mendon ward Sunday school superintendency, consisting of Earl Buist, Rulen Ladle and William Longstroth, Jr. The maypole dance, under direction of Mozelle Sorensen and Clara Leishman, follows crowning of the queen. The group will sing May songs as a part of the festival. Twenty small girls, dressed in colors of green and yellow, will dance around the maypole. The program in the chapel begins at 10:30 a.m., speaker is Mayor Vance D. Walker, and there will be special musical numbers, children’s dance at 2:00 p.m., all kinds of outdoor sports and a ball game. Climax will be the public dance at night, in the recreation hall. The traditional May Day celebration at Mendon has been conducted each year since the community was settled in 1859.
