Mendon May Day— 1898
Rachel Marilla Richards— “It being near our May Day celebration at this writing, my memory goes back to the time when I was chosen queen of May. I remember my sister Agnes made me a pretty pink organdy dress, and I also had pink slippers. It was a beautiful day. It had rained the night before and the trees and grass looked so green and fresh as it does today. My cousin Leon Richards was the consort. My mother had a large table the entire length of the large dining room, and I remember it was filled twice.”
