When I think of a hardscrabble way of life, this photo of the Basset family on their homestead in Bannock during 1907 always comes to mind.
Times were tough and hard, the land and farming methods were primitive. A very hard way to make a living.
Many of the second or third generation of Mendon settlers had to grub it out on Idaho farmland. There was not enough land in the Mendon area for many.
