Every town had a blacksmith shop or two and Mendon was no exception. A.W. Richards kept one of the last, Mart Anderson had a shop as well. His was more modren and lasted into the late 1960's or early 1970's.
L. K. Wood perhaps had the last of the old time shops with a forge. He built and repaired steam power equipment.
In the old times you had to grow it your self and harvest it your self, and either repair it your self or know someone who could fix your machinery and such needed repair.
