Picture Caption: Reigning as Queen of May at the Mendon May Day celebration on Saturday will be Koya Baker, center daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Baker. The Maids of her court are Susanne Jensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Jensen, Karine Ladle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rulen Ladle; Carolyn Barrett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanton Barrett, and Karen Bird, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Bird. The crowning of the queen will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the lawn by the church. The dancing of the maypole will follow. Afterwards, there will be a program in the chapel. At 2:00 p.m. there will be a children’s dance in the cultural hall, at 3:00 p.m., a little league baseball game and at 9:00 p.m. there will be dancing in the cultural hall to the music of the Continentals. During the afternoon there will be all kinds of games and sports. All during the day there will be a refreshment stand open with any kinds of food for sale. Proceeds will go to the ward library. May Day Program: We welcome all former queens and residents and hope you will enjoy May Day with us and have a good time. Queen and court will be introduced by T. Kay Sorensen. The program will be announced. Afternoon Events: Children’s dance, 2:00 p.m.; children’s races, 3:00 p.m.; Little League ball game, after races and followed by explorer ball game; Tug-of-war, north and south; adult evening dance, 9:00 p.m. Following the program and through the afternoon home made food will be for sale. Bar-B-Que, Pronto Pups, Hot Dogs, Salads, Pie, Cake, Cookies, Candy and Pop. Proceeds go to the Mendon ward library project. We want to thank all those who helped to make this a successful day. Many Former Residents Attend Mendon May Day— Mrs. Ivan Baker entertained at a lovely dinner on May Day at her home in Mendon, honoring her daughter Koya who was Queen of May. Other guests were Koya’s consort, Kenneth Buist, her maids and their partners Karen Bird, Steven Hardman, Carolyn Barrett, Val Sorensen, Karine Ladle, Richard Peterson, Susanne Jensen, Lynn Richards and her aunt Frances Baker who came from Salt Lake City for the celebration and Superintendent Merlin Yonk. Mothers of the May Day court members assisted Mrs. Baker. Mrs. Pearl Bird entertained at a lovely May Day dinner for members of her family who came for the celebration, Mrs. Darlene Richins, Rae Dell and Kay from Henefer; Mr. and Mrs. Dee Crockett, Mrs. Richard Miles, Smithfield; Mrs. Lee Carrol and children Jay Lyn and LeeAnn and JoAnn Carroll, Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Danny Leatham, Michael, Steven and Melanie Leatham; Mrs. Travis Johnson, Lynette, Janise, Jill and Keith Johnson, Logan; Dale Bird and sons Alan, Mike, Scott and Cory of Roy. Mr. and Mrs. J. Karl Bird’s dinner guests were Mrs. Leon Seally, Mrs. Chris Nelson and daughter Brenda Thurston, Logan. Karen Bird’s weekend guest was RaNae Miller of Salt Lake City. May Day dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sorensen were Mrs. Althea Reese and children Craig and Marcile, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Doolittle and Heidi, all of Logan; Miss Caroline Cunningham, Salt Lake City and Keith Sorensen. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dearing and sons Artie, Roger, Danny and David, former residents of Mendon came from Sugar City, Idaho for the celebration and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Oriel Kidman, Petersboro on Saturday and Sunday. Members of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Carlyle Bird who came for the day were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Young and sons Choly and Leslie of Nibley; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sharp, Julie, Jeff, Tresa and Gregory, Bountiful; Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Bird, Clearfield. Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Larsen were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hancock, Logan; Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Larsen, Centerville; Hazel Howell and Debera Larsen. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Sorensen entertained Mr. and Mrs. Norman Sorensen, Debbie and Kristine, Logan; Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Barrett, Pauline and Doreen Sorensen. Mr. and Mrs. Bartell Bird and son Shane came from Brigham City for the celebrations and were guests of her parents Mr. and Mrs. William Longstroth. Other guests were Mrs. Paul Keetch, Paula and Chad of Montpelier, Idaho. The following took part on the May Day program with Sunday school superintendent Merlin Yonk in charge. The Charley Brown Boys, directed by June Bowen and accompanied by Gloria Richards, sang two numbers. Anna Jean Skidmore gave a musical review accompanied by Mrs. Rasmussen. Inez Bruce and Beth Parson accompanying themselves on guitars, sang and Ted Wilde gave “The Cremation of Sam McGee” with their guitar accompaniment. Paula Watkins and Ted Blanchard played an organ and piano duet. Bishop Zeno Andersen spoke and superintendent Yonk presented May Queen Koya Baker with a trophy.
